Cavities affect nearly 50% of 5- to 6-year-old children, a number which rises to about 80% by the time they reach 17. While We know that with kids, nothing is safe from injury. Accidents happen and we’ll be here when they do so that you can have the peace of mind that you need, and your children have the gentle dental care they need. Whether your child has a loosened or out-of-place permanent tooth, a chipped or cracked tooth, or a knocked-out permanent tooth, we have the pediatric dentists who can help ease the pain and get your child’s smile back.
Knocked-Out Permanent Teeth
When your child has a severe blow to the face enough to knock out a permanent tooth, you need to see emergency care within 2 hours, at the maximum in order for the tooth to be saved. If you are farther than a half hour away from your pediatric dentist, then we recommend rinsing the tooth off with water and placing it back in the socket, ensuring that it is facing the right direction and level with the rest of the teeth. Then have your child bite down on a rolled-up towel or cloth until more professional medical attention can be provided.
If you are unable to replace the tooth, then the most important thing is to make sure that it doesn’t dry out. Place the tooth into either milk or the child’s saliva to transport it.
Loosened Permanent Teeth
The mouth has a powerful way to heal itself, so on many occasions, a loosened permanent tooth will tighten up in about 3 days, so as long as your nurture it with a soft-food diet during that time no serious dental care should be needed.
